South Australia has had a sister-state/province relationship with Shandong province since 1986. Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, and Qingdao in China’s Shandong Province are strengthening their already “friendly, co-operative” partnership by becoming official sister cities; a deal expected to boost trade, investment and tourism for both regions. Shandong has the third largest provincial economy in China.
In 1986 there was a further important development when a delegation from the state branch visited Shandong Province. Members of that delegation, Jeff Emmel from the ACFS SA in particular, were largely responsible for putting in place the series of steps that led to South Australia and Shandong becoming sister states.
